Bill Mueller had 4 hits and 5 RBI and Scot Shields finished beautifully as the
Caracas Leones defeated the Dublin Pubcrawlers by the score of 7 to 4 at the
ballpark.
Mueller was unconscious out there. While Dublin pitching was serving
softballs up there for him to hit, the Dublin fans were serving up some
hardball barbs when he entered the batter's box. But he just used it as fuel
for the fire. He doubled bringing in a run in the 1st inning, doubled in the
3rd inning, bombed a two-run dinger (his 8th of the season) in the 5th inning
and doubled which was good for two runs in the 6th inning. Caracas took care
of Dublin with no trouble in the bottom of the 9th.
The victory went to Johan Santana(12-4) who went 6 innings, allowing 4 runs.
Shields recorded the save, his 16th. Ramon Ortiz(4-6) suffered the loss. He
allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 11 hits and 2 walks in 5 and 2/3
innings.
'The ball was jumping off my bat' Mueller said. 'I didn't do anything
differently, it's the same way I always approach the game.'
